Books and reading have always been an important part of my life. When I was very young, my grandma was the library director at our local public library. Years later, after she had retired, I became a librarian at the same library and worked there for several years before taking a part-time job at a local coffee shop, which gives me more time to do what I love, to read and to review books! A few of my favorite authors are Aimee Bender, Diane Chamberlain, and Curtis Sittenfeld however, I will read almost any book I come across! In my spare time you can find me reading (of course), volunteering at a wildlife animal rehab, or hanging out with my three house rabbits.
Jodi Picoult is one of those authors that aren't simple. It's not just a matter of "Jodi Picoult? I love her books!" or "Oh, Picoult? Eh, not for me". No, in my experience, most readers…
I haven't read any of Jane Smiley's blockbuster titles like A Thousand  Acres or A Private Life, but when I was about twelve my younger sister told me about a book she read, and re…
This book reminded me a lot of Jhumpa Lahiri's The Lowland. It had much of the same feel, and many of the characters seemed to be similar to the ones in Lahiri's book. I enjoyed The Lowland, even thou…
The cover of this book reminded me of something I would see with the name Kristin Hannah or Elin Hilderbrand plastered on the front, but instead, I was pleasantly surprised to be introduced to a new a…
I saw this book several years ago and was intrigued by what I read on the back cover. I kept my eye out for it, but didn't get my hands on it until recently when I received a review copy. This is a st…
I must admit that I was pleasantly surprised to find this book to be wonderful. I'm not exactly sure what made it into a great book; perhaps a mixture of things, but I can say that I was not…
Are you looking for a good mystery to curl up with? Every once in a while a real thriller is the only thing that will satisfy. I started reading this book without knowing anything about it--except tha…
The Poisonwood Bible has been on my to-read list for a long time. I didn't know if I would be able to make it through this book at first glance. I have enjoyed several other books by Barbara King…
The first book I read by Raina Telgemeier was Smile, and even though I read it when I was about 17 years old, I still enjoyed it. The funny thing is, even though I never had braces but two of my s…
What The Family Needed was very interesting indeed. I have a hard time even describing it, but I will give it a shot. Here goes... A family that seems quite typical undergoes several personal …
First, I adore the watercolor picture on the cover of this book. I hope the paperback version keeps this illustration; it's so beautiful. Second, I have mixed feelings about this book. I enjoyed all o…
I had never heard of this book until our library bought a copy. A patron requested the purchase, and once I read the synopsis I was intrigued and added it to my to-read list. When the patron who reque…
