An accountant and CPA by profession, I found myself a book reviewer for Squeaky Clean Reads by happenstance. When the opportunity came to transform that website into Compass Book Ratings, I was excited to seize it and meld my business background with my love of books. As the mother of three teenage sons, I have read a large number of children and young adult books and I believe that there is great value in a content review service. As much as we would love to read everything our children read, there just isn’t enough time. I also appreciate being able to select books for myself that are really worth my precious and limited reading time. I believe there is a book out there for everyone–they just have to find it!

Author Dan Poblocki's prologue to The Ghost of Graylock is steeped in atmosphere and reads just like a classic campfire-telling of a ghost story.  Filled with a creepy and remote location (abandoned s…
The Fellowship for Alien Detection by Kevin Emerson is definitely a book that you do not want to judge by the cover.  The light, cartoonish cover artwork and the title imply a humorous book …
What can I say?--I just like this series.  Spy Camp by Stuart Gibbs is a follow-up to Spy School.  It brings back Ben Ripley, an average guy in an anything but your average spy situation.  Also return…
With the posting of the book review and content analysis of Counting by 7s by Holly Goldberg Sloan (Fabulous book!--and you can quote us on that), Compass Book Ratings now has 1,000 book reviews in ou…
The Incredible Charlotte Sycamore by Kate Maddison has a mash-up of elements such as romance and steampunk, but it is primarily a mystery/adventure in a historical setting.   Because it…
All the good things you may hear about Counting by 7s are true.  It is one of the best middle grade books of 2013.  In some ways it makes one think of Out of My Mind by S…
Me Before You by Jojo Moyes keeps the reader guessing up to the last chapter.  This book, although categorized as a love story, takes on some deep issues.  It provides a glimpse at the physi…
