The Crossover by Kwame Alexander
This book is technically in verse, but you won’t notice. A great guy read with an engaging plot, this novel has won other awards like the Coretta Scott King Award. Check out the full review in our database.

El Deafo by Cece Bell
This book is a graphic novel the looks at what it means to have a hearing disability.
Brown Girl Dreaming by Jacqueline Woodson
This is another book in verse that has received multiple awards. It is also non-fiction; the story of the author’s childhood and what it was like to grow up during the civil rights movement.
