Suzanne Woods Fisher continues her National Parks Summers series with Chase the Light. If you haven’t read the first book, the richness of the characters and their stories is a bit less fulfilling. However, Chase the Light can be read as a standalone book. Get ready for another adventure in a beautiful National Park setting. What a great backdrop for this tale. The story flows smoothly and is an easy read.

One of the things that stands out in this novel is how the author brought characters from the first book into the second story in normal and natural ways without it screaming, “I put this character in just because he or she was in the first book.” Characters like Maisie, Frankie, and Tim Rivers not only return, but their character development continues. Some of the best parts are seeing what they have learned and how they may or may not have grown. New characters are also introduced.

The book has adventure, mystery, intrigue and of course romance. Okay, small confessional, I don’t ever skip to the end of a book unless I don’t plan to finish reading it and just want to know how it ends. In this book there were hints of a relationship and I was really hoping certain things happened the way I wanted them to, so much so, that I considered skipping ahead just to make sure. I didn’t, but let’s just say I was that invested in the relationships of some of the characters.
