You Belong with Me is the first book in the Restoring Heritage series and also the debut novel of Tari Faris. Set in a small town in Michigan, the story has all the typical themes of love unrealized, a small town losing its businesses, and one of the small towners trying desperately to save it.
Just about every person in the story has some kind of emotional issue that translates into selfish and or thoughtless actions. Headstrong and determined to do it on their own, the characters in the book begin to realize they need more than just themselves to overcome or handle these issues. This book is really about people learning to rely on God as they wade through life’s challenges.
The story started off a bit on the slow side and it took a while for this reader to really care much about the characters, but by the end of the book, it seems a long wait for the next book in the series. Most readers will be able to find a character or two in this story with whom they can relate. Enjoy this jaunt to small town America.
