This story clearly conveys the message that God is wise and each of us is made in His image. Being different is okay because we have God to help us overcome our challenges. Written in a light rhyming voice, this non-fictional story brings to life the real struggle of a young girl who is fighting epilepsy. The story itself is fourteen pages, complete with colorful illustrations of Sadie enjoying life, family, and the beautiful outdoors. There are another seven pages written by Sadie’s Mama explaining the struggle of dealing with Sadie’s diagnosis, how their family came along-side Sadie, and how they have trusted God for help and wisdom while they travel this “road.”
This story is written by an author with a strong belief in God. There are at least two valuable lessons in this book. First, that when we see people with disabilities, we shouldn’t mock them; we should be kind and friendly. Second, from Sadie’s Mom’s point of view, trusting God through the hard times and the value of prayer shouldn’t be underestimated. Written for the young and old alike, this story would be appropriate for young children. The pacing is perfect and I look forward to reading more of this author’s future works. This would be a good read aloud for the family.
