Publisher's Note:

With easy-to-read text, high-interest content, fast-paced plots, and illustrations on every page, these books will boost reading confidence and stamina. Branches books help readers grow! In the ninth book, a Dragon Master named Mina arrives at the castle. She tells Drake and his friends that her kingdom in the Far North Lands was attacked by a magical Ice Giant. Everything there was frozen -- but Mina escaped! Only a fire dragon can unfreeze her land and defeat the terrible Ice Giant. But Rori and Vulcan are no longer at the castle! Overall Book Review:

Chill of the Ice Dragon is the next installment of The Dragon Masters Series. This series is written for a younger audience (1st to 3rd grade) as part of the Branches division of Scholastic. The chapters are short with illustrations on each page. However, you cannot pick up in the middle of the series – each book builds upon the one before. This is a great series for beginning readers.

In this book, the dragon masters work together to help another dragon master from a faraway kingdom to free their dragon, wizard, and kingdom from an ice giant with powerful magic too strong to fight alone. They also reunite with a friend they thought they had lost.

At the end of the book there is a Question and Activity page that assists with reading comprehension and further discussion of the characters/events of the book.

There are strong boy and girl leads in this book and I highly recommend this series to any young reader interested in fantasy.

About the Reviewer

My favorite books are ones that change me and my perceptions of the world in a significant way. My favorite genre is probably historical fiction with biographies as a close second.
