Books and reading have always been an important part of my life. When I was very young, my grandma was the library director at our local public library. Years later, after she had retired, I became a librarian at the same library and worked there for several years before taking a part-time job at a local coffee shop, which gives me more time to do what I love, to read and to review books! A few of my favorite authors are Aimee Bender, Diane Chamberlain, and Curtis Sittenfeld however, I will read almost any book I come across! In my spare time you can find me reading (of course), volunteering at a wildlife animal rehab, or hanging out with my three house rabbits.
I have mentioned in previous reviews how I have a love-hate relationship with collections of short stories. Some are great, and some not so much. I have found it usually depends on the author. Sometim…
I've always been attracted to fairytales. Something about the mixture of everyday life and fantasy that goes into them really appeals to me. This "retelling" of Hansel and Gretel sticks…
As I read this book I tried to think of another book to compare it to. No other book for adults, but from the perspective of a child has pulled me in quite so fast, and I found myself surprised a…
There has been a bit of a ruckus about this book, so perhaps you have already heard of it. I know I saw quite a bit about it leading up to the publication date. I started reading it with the anticipat…
I always try to have both an audio book I am listening to, and a physical book I am reading. I have found that I really enjoy listening to books, as long as the narrator doesn't have a voice that anno…
Books focusing on teens and suicide have always been ones I am almost certain to enjoy. The fact that this book is by Gayle Forman (of If I Stay fame) and is mostly about a teen girl dealing…
Though I don't really enjoy reading old books, I find that I really enjoy reading books about old books. I love books that talk about antiquarian bookshops and the smell and feel of old books. I think…
I've been reading Jane Green's books off and on since I first discovered them several years ago. The first few that I "read" I actually listened to the audiobook version. Maybe it was the narrato…
A Small Indiscretionis an impressive debut novel, but I don't know if I will seek out any of Jan Ellison's future novels, if there are any. I liked her writing style, but the story just wasn't what I …
When I saw that Sarah Addison Allen had a new book coming out, I practically jumped for joy. I have read every book that Ms. Allen has written, and I have not been disappointed yet. First Frost&n…
Days after I have finished reading it, this book is still at the forefront of my mind, which is not typical for me. I am a voracious reader and sometimes feel as if I have to put each book I have fini…
I don't usually read books about topics that aren't interesting to me, but sometimes I hear so may positive things about a book that I pick it up anyway. This was the case with Diamond Boy. …
