Publisher's Note:

A wild outer-space fantasy about fixing your mistakes and the friends you meet along the way. When Jo, a headstrong maintenance technician, makes an error that destabilizes her planet's core, she only knows one way to fix things: leaving her underground home for a trip to the planet's dangerous, unruly surface. Soon she's wandering through deserts, riding on the backs of giant beasts, and cutting deals with con artists and bounty hunters. Meanwhile, agents of the core are in hot pursuit. J. N. Topside

by J. N. Monk

Overall Book Review:

Topside is a quick sci-fi graphic novel about a post-apocalyptic world. The main character, Jo Wilson, is a repair technician trying to keep things running that are constantly breaking down. Frustrated with the lack of resources, Jo takes matters into her own hands and goes in search of resources herself. She has no idea where her journey will take her or the adventures she will have along the way.

Jo is a clever and spunky character who is willing to break the rules for the greater good. To that end, she teams up with a few shady characters to help her accomplish her goal. We meet more characters along the way and they all become an interesting and eclectic group with a seemingly impossible task. The idea of the story is interesting but author J.N. Monk and contributor Harry Bogosian, leave a bit to the imagination with more pictures and less dialogue. As a result, it got a bit confusing at times but in the end, it all wraps up so you’re able to piece it together. If you love graphic novels and post-apocalyptic stories, Topside is for you.

About the Reviewer

I love being able to help busy parents who just don’t have the time to pre-screen all their children’s books and know how much I appreciate it as my sons have gotten older. I feel very blessed that my amazing husband makes it possible for me to be a stay-at-home mother to four amazing boys. When not reading or enjoying time with my family, I like baking, especially trying new recipes, and the occasional sewing project.
