This is Where It Ends

by Cindy K. Sproles

Overall Book Review:

Cindy K. Sproles has penned another compelling historical story called This is Where It Ends. The book focuses on the life of Mrs. Minerva Jane Jenkins at the turn of the twentieth century. The story feels so authentic that one can just imagine meeting Minerva. Readers be warned, this lady will wind her way into your heart.

A historical tale of this nature typically involves transitioning between multiple points of view. Not this book. Sproles stays true to Mrs. Minerva Jane Jenkins by keeping the entire book in her perspective. Perhaps this is what makes her such an interesting character. One gets to experience everything that Minerva does as she experienced it and not from someone else’s perspective. This technique truly brought the characters to life.

The events that unfold in this novel are quite sad in many ways and yet uplifting and hopeful in so many others. It is a tale of an older woman whose faith in God is tested even as she nears the end of her life. Ultimately she has to decide how she is going to handle the situations by which she is confronted. Emotions run high and the entire book is a beautiful reading experience.
