The War of the Worlds by H.G. Wells is possibly the original alien invasion story, and it is extremely well done.  Wells brings the reader into the horrors of a 19th century England invaded by a race far more powerful than the human race.  The language is a bit old-fashioned, but you can still feel the despair, fear, and horror leaking off the pages as you read the accounts of the aliens’ incredible machines and disturbing diet.  Readers who enjoy science fiction most certainly will love this novel, and readers who enjoy post-apocalyptic novels may find that they also enjoy experiencing the apocalypse rather than its aftermath.  And once again, readers will be amazed by H.G. Wells’ astounding imagination and impressive descriptive capabilities.  A classic for all time!
