Louie L’Amour is one the great classic western authors. The Riders of High Rock is one of his novels done in the Romantic style, and the main character is the famous Hopalong Cassidy, the character that inspired the TV series. While I wouldn’t consider this novel one of L’Amour’s best pieces, it is still done in classic L’Amour style and delivers an exciting Western tale complete with cattle rustlers, deceit, western slang, and gun battles. Hopalong is an amusing main character, and his bantering with Red provides for a great deal of entertainment. If you want to read a good example of romantic Western literature, read this book!
