The Mapmaker and the Ghost is part adventure story and part treasure hunt, with a friendly ghost thrown in for good measure. 11 year old Goldenrod, the brave protagonist, is a bit of a loner, but she has plenty of spunk. The book starts slowly and may require a little patience on the reader’s part. However, about a third of the way in, the pace picks up and things start happening. The author, Sarvenaz Tash, invests a bit of back story for each character and creates some unexpected connections. Ended most satisfactorily, The Mapmaker and the Ghost offers a little bit of history and a few moral lessons while taking the reader on a trip.
