Book Review

Publisher's Note:

The Blue Falcons is a secret kid’s club that fights against a family of villainous magicians. Using an impressive arsenal of magical candy, Nate, Summer, Trevor, and Pigeon defeated Belinda White, a sinister candy shop owner who almost seized control of their town, and her brother, Jonas White, a maniacal arcade operator who tried to turn the planet into his personal puppet. Now, the Blue Falcons believe they must battle the third sibling―Camilla, who has brought the Dreams and Screams International Carnival to their town of Colson, California. Rumors are spreading about the new carnival. Those who visit feel compelled to return. Some who enter the labyrinthine Fun House disappear for days. And the Big Top is said to bewitch audience members. The Blue Falcons think they know who is responsible and are ready to fight, but the carnival blocks any outside magic. Without their favorite enchanted treats, how can the kids save their town? When weird dreams start to plague everyone who has visited the carnival, the worlds of magic and reality collide. With the help of a new magical enforcer, the Blue Falcons will need to learn to use the magic of the carnival against itself, including a host of new magical carnival candies, and tap into the power of their own dreams to battle their greatest adversary yet.…

Overall Book Review:

Prepare to step into a world of magic and candy-coated chaos! As huge Candy Shop War fans, my household was abuzz with excitement when the final book of the series, The Candy Shop War: Carnival Quest, arrived. And let me tell you, Brandon Mull did not disappoint! With his incredible imagination and witty humor, Mull has a unique ability to know and appeal to his audience like no other author.

From the diverse, brave, and loyal main characters to the clever and tricky villains, readers will be kept on their toes as they follow along on this candy-fueled adventure. The candy in this story is not just any ordinary sweet treat – it gives the characters delightful abilities that will have you wishing you could try a piece or two yourself.

But it is not just the candy that sets this story apart. Mull has a unique way of showing the consequences of characters’ actions, including how they get hurt which will be appreciated by parents and readers alike. On top of all that, Mull seamlessly weaves in life lessons and expands readers’ vocabularies in an entertaining way.

As a newcomer to the series, it was easy to follow the plot despite references to the previous two books. This was one suspenseful and fun read! I cannot wait to discuss it with my children, who are arm-wrestling over who gets to read it first. Readers of all ages will be amused and engrossed as the pages fly by in this five-star fantasy novel. So, grab a piece of candy and dive in!

About the Reviewer

I love being able to help busy parents who just don’t have the time to pre-screen all their children’s books and know how much I appreciate it as my sons have gotten older. I feel very blessed that my amazing husband makes it possible for me to be a stay-at-home mother to four amazing boys. When not reading or enjoying time with my family, I like baking, especially trying new recipes, and the occasional sewing project.
