Overall Book Review:

“Online, it’s like the world is a huge apartment building with rows and rows of windows. For a few minutes, the shades snap open to reveal a carefully selected reality…But no one really sees what happens beyond those windows.” -Skye

Screenshot is a reminder that what we see of people’s lives online is usually nothing like real life, as mentioned in the above quote from main character, Skye. We usually have no idea what people are truly going through. Author Donna Cooner lets us see deeper into the lives of a few characters and discover their different struggles and difficulties. The characters and plot will feel authentic and familiar to anyone who has/is attending public high school. This story will likely remind you of many other HS drama stories, like Always Never Yours and Folded Notes From High School but with its own twist, focusing on social media. Readers will not only enjoy the story but also be able to learn a thing or two about the fact that social media does not show reality. Screenshot would be great for a book club, or for anyone looking for a quick HS story with depth.

About the Reviewer

I love being able to help busy parents who just don’t have the time to pre-screen all their children’s books and know how much I appreciate it as my sons have gotten older. I feel very blessed that my amazing husband makes it possible for me to be a stay-at-home mother to four amazing boys. When not reading or enjoying time with my family, I like baking, especially trying new recipes, and the occasional sewing project.
