Scent of Hope is the second book in Susan May Warren’s Call of the Wild series. It is set in Alaska and follows the same pattern as many of Warren’s books. Two characters who once knew each other, but were too traumatized to form a healthy relationship are now thrown together in a desperate situation and forced to work together. 

Many of the books written by the author use this method, but it felt as though this story was a little too focused on the issues of the characters rather than the plot of catching the bad guy. Don’t worry, there are still some pretty intense actions scenes, but somehow it just felt a little flat. It seems as though the protagonists have not learned much from their past and are largely just as broken.

If you enjoy Warren’s books, you will likely enjoy reading this one. However, it might not have had the same focus as some of her other works. There are some fun surprises and interesting plot twists. There are some adorable K-9 rescuers as well. If you want to delve into romance between two broken souls and throw in a few life or death struggles, you have the makings of an intriguing read.
