Book Review

Publisher's Note:

When Russell entered the race, he knew it was going to be a wild ride. Especially the first race course! He'd been studying up on the Amazon's animals and culture forever. But nothing could prepare him or his teammates for what they'd find in the rain forest: raging rapids, poisonous venom, and sneaky competitors who'd do anything to win. Can the red team work together to make it to the finish line in one piece? Each chapter in this action-packed adventure series is bursting with totally true facts about wild and wonderful creatures, dangerous habitats, maps, and more!…

Overall Book Review:

Rain Forest Relay is a beginner book, written for those young readers who are just starting on chapter books (7 to 8 year olds) and is the first book in the Race the Wild series by Kristin Earhart.  In it we follow Russell and his team as they compete in the first leg of a worldwide race through different ecosystems.

Rain Forest Relay is a fun adventure that moves at a great pace for beginning readers.  The competition aspect of this book will keep readers involved in the story and help them want to continue reading.  The characters are quite relatable and deal with situations that young readers are familiar with such as playing fair, making new friends, etc.

Thoughout the story there are also fun fact pages about an aspect of the rainforest talked about in the chapter before.  Not only does this help the reader relate to the story but it also opens up a world of plants and animals they may not have known anything about.  Rain Forest Relay is a book that is both entertaining and educational and it will spark any young reader’s sense of adventure.

About the Reviewer

I always say that I love to read and that books are my passion, but as I have grown a little older, I have come to realize that isn’t entirely true. I do love reading, but my true passion is stories. For as long as I can remember I have been completely enthralled with a good story, no matter the medium: books, theater, movies/TV shows–even a few video games (yes, I am a nerd).
