Book Review

Publisher's Note:

Tilly and her best friend Oskar are bookwanderers: a remarkable group of people who, using the magical power of books, can travel inside any story they choose. But on a wintry visit to Paris, the friends wander inside a book of fairy tales to find that peculiar things are happening: characters are getting lost, stories are all mixed up, and mysterious plot holes are opening without warning . . . It's up to Tilly and Oskar to figure out what--or who--is behind the chaos. And after the friends come face-to-face with an old foe, they realize that villains can exist outside the pages of books . . . and that sometimes, you don't get to live happily ever after.…

Overall Book Review:

Pages and Co: The Lost Fairy Tales is book two of a clever trilogy. Author Anna James transports you back and forth between reality and fiction (and sometimes in-between) throughout the story. James does a good job of filling you in on details from book one but I would recommend starting at the beginning to better immerse yourself in the world she created. Entering the fairy tale realm was the best part and was reminiscent of The Hero’s Guide to Saving Your Kingdom. The main character, Tilly, and her sidekick/best friend, Oskar, often find themselves in sticky situations and are usually left to solve things on their own. Tilly is smart and spunky but at times disrespectful to her grandparents who are helping her mother raise her. However, she is persistent and willing to do what it takes to help their world that is in disrepair, even if it means putting herself in danger. Expect a serious cliff-hanger ending. Hopefully James is writing the third and final book quickly so we can see how things get resolved. Fairy tale fans will enjoy this four-star story.

About the Reviewer

I love being able to help busy parents who just don’t have the time to pre-screen all their children’s books and know how much I appreciate it as my sons have gotten older. I feel very blessed that my amazing husband makes it possible for me to be a stay-at-home mother to four amazing boys. When not reading or enjoying time with my family, I like baking, especially trying new recipes, and the occasional sewing project.
