Sarah Sundin continues her World War II novel collection with Mists Over the Channel Islands. If you have read other books by this author, this story will not disappoint. If you have never read books by this author, you can pick this one up and read it as a standalone and not feel too lost. However, it might be mentioned that Sundin’s works can be addicting and you might find yourself wanting to binge read many of the other books.
This particular story covers about a five-year period of time. This really contributes to the possibility of a real romance developing without the usual haste. It helps those who love romance to imagine the characters really do know one another and might actually stay together after the novel ends. The personalities of some of the main supporting characters are not developed very well and leaves a bit to be desired while others seem to really shine.
It is not clear if future books from Sarah Sundin will continue following some of these characters and their lives, but there is one particular character Fern, that has sparked my interest. Will Sundin leave this to our imaginations as a reader or pen a book focused on what happens to this character? She gives a small one liner, but leaves the rest open.
It is always appreciated when an author of a historical piece gives the readers some insights as to which characters and events actually took place and where liberties were taken. Sundin does a great job with this. She takes a few short pages at the end to make sure readers understand what really happened. She seamlessly blends her fiction and non-fiction characters and expertly incorporates significant events into her story.
