Book Review

Publisher's Note:

Cassia has always trusted the Society to make the right choices for her: what to read, what to watch, what to believe. So when Xander's face appears on-screen at her Matching ceremony, Cassia knows with complete certainty that he is her ideal mate . . . until she sees Ky Markham's face flash for an instant before the screen fades to black. The Society tells her it's a glitch, a rare malfunction, and that she should focus on the happy life she's destined to lead with Xander. But Cassia can't stop thinking about Ky, and as they slowly fall in love, Cassia begins to doubt the Society's infallibility and is faced with an impossible choice: between Xander and Ky, between the only life she's known and a path that no one else has dared to follow.…

by Ally Condie

Overall Book Review:

As book one of a trilogy, Ally Condie does a fantastic job of piquing your interest with this futuristic series. It is intriguing to see her idea of a future with similarities to how we currently live, but also with many surprising differences. While the characters have to deal with an incredibly stifling government, it’s almost unbelievable how compliant and passive the majority of the population is–until you realize what makes them this way. Their lives are good, life is fairly easy and for the most part everyone is healthy and happy, but it comes with a cost. Can everyone be submissive all the time and in all situations? The way a few of the characters evolve from beginning to end makes this a very engaging book. A complicated love triangle also adds to the readability of this story. I really look forward to reading the rest of the series and finding out how the characters continue to develop.

About the Reviewer

I love being able to help busy parents who just don’t have the time to pre-screen all their children’s books and know how much I appreciate it as my sons have gotten older. I feel very blessed that my amazing husband makes it possible for me to be a stay-at-home mother to four amazing boys. When not reading or enjoying time with my family, I like baking, especially trying new recipes, and the occasional sewing project.
