Letters from Skye is a touching and powerful love story. The book is epistolary — consisting entirely of letters — and author Jessica Brockmole’s words are stunningly beautiful and poetic. Main characters David and Elspeth are well-developed and I found them to be original and incredibly likable. Readers will feel transported to another place and time as they follow the pair’s heart-wrenching journey through times of despair and hope, love and loss. The book actually has a similar feel to The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society, yet Skye is unique in that it spans several decades, including both World Wars. Though the plot grows a tad unrealistic, the story is packed with emotion and suspenseful enough that I didn’t want it to end. Letters from Skye is a charming book and would make a delightful summer read!
