Book Review

Publisher's Note:

A delightful fantasy debut for fans of TJ Klune and T Kingfisher, about a retired orc who trades the warrior life for the quiet life. Or so she planned... The much-beloved BookTok sensation, Travis Baldree's novel of high fantasy and low stakes. After a lifetime of bounties and bloodshed, Viv is hanging up her sword for the last time. The battle-weary orc aims to start fresh, opening the first ever coffee shop in the city of Thune. But old and new rivals stand in the way of success — not to mention the fact that no one has the faintest idea what coffee actually is. If Viv wants to put the blade behind her and make her plans a reality, she won't be able to go it alone. But the true rewards of the uncharted path are the travelers you meet along the way. And whether drawn together by ancient magic, flaky pastry, or a freshly brewed cup, they may become partners, family, and something deeper than she ever could have dreamed. “Take a break from epic battles and saving the world. Legends & Lattes is a low-stakes fantasy that delivers exactly what's advertised: a wholesome, cozy novel that feels like a warm hug. This is my new comfort read.”—Genevieve Gornichec, author of The Witch's Heart…

Legends & Lattes

by Travis Baldree

Overall Book Review:

Legends & Lattes was published in early 2022, and it quickly became known as a cozy, relaxing fantasy story. And that’s exactly what it is. This is the tale of an orc setting up a coffee shop in a city that has never heard of coffee before. It deals with the various problems she encounters along the way and the relationships she builds with other characters. It’s fun to see the author introduce some coffee shop stereotypes in a fantasy setting. Also, the characters work hard to create an environment that brings people together, which feels very wholesome. While I didn’t care for the relationship between two of the major characters, most readers seem to appreciate it. This is certainly a unique approach to adult fantasy, as a relaxing, low-stakes escape from the real world. This is the way to go if you’re looking for a cozy story with an amusing fantasy setting.

About the Reviewer

I was homeschooled from kindergarten to grade 10, which gave me a love for reading. Growing up books were an integral part of my life, and I’ve always been able to make time to read. I’m most widely read in YA fiction, but fantasy is becoming my favorite genre. My free time not spent reading is mostly spent outdoors camping, riding a bicycle, or otherwise enjoying nature. I’m also a science nerd with a special interest in entomology.
