Book Review

Publisher's Note:

When Aurelie Harcourt's father dies in debtor's prison, he leaves her just two things: his wealthy family, whom she has never met, and his famous pen name, Nathaniel Droll. Her new family greets her with apathy and even resentment. Only the quiet houseguest, Silas Rotherham, welcomes her company. When Aurelie decides to complete her father's unfinished serial novel, writing the family into the story as unflattering characters, she must keep her identity as Nathaniel Droll hidden while searching for the truth about her mother's disappearance--and perhaps even her father's death. Author Joanna Davidson Politano's stunning debut set in Victorian England will delight readers with its highly original plot, lush setting, vibrant characters, and reluctant romance.…

Lady Jayne Disappears

by Joanna Davidson Politano

Overall Book Review:

Joanna Davidson Politano begins her novel writing career with Lady Jayne Disappears.  This is a historical fiction piece taking place in London in the 1860s.  The thought behind the plot was quite unique and intriguing.

Politano develops her characters with interesting personality traits, hidden heartache, and more emotional depth than one might expect.  Much could be said of the way the author chose to progress the plot, but it would spoil the reader’s opportunity to learn and discover.  All the while readers are enveloped in beautiful, descriptive prose that adds to the pleasure of this book.

Aurelie Harcourt is the leading lady and she is a fascinating person.  She has had many hardships in her life, but she had a father whom she adored and who left many special memories at his death.  Now she is trying to carry on without him in a world in which she has not been a part.

Silas Rotherham is the type of man historical romance readers love to find.  He does have his own secrets that make his relationship with Aurelie a bit difficult.  Silas is pleasant and as mysteries are unfolded not all the answers are the ones the two main characters anticipated.

Enjoy this emotional journey and come to learn the secrets of how Lady Jayne disappeared.  It should also be known that Mrs. Politano has a second novel in the works so readers will not have to wait too long to read more from this writer.
