Overall Book Review:

Kelsey Green, Reading Queen is a chapter book directed at readers ages seven to nine.  Author Claudia Mills charmingly captures the profile of a third grade, competitive reading addict and what lengths (and books . . . even POETRY!) the young lady will go to to ensure she is the top reader in her class.  The characters are authentic and positive.  The book includes a few illustrations, but with a Lexile level of 750, it has a fairly advanced vocabulary for a third grade chapter book.  One of the fun aspects of the book is to see the wonderful titles that the character Kelsey is reading.  Kelsey Green, Reading Queen is one of the better-written chapter books that I have read recently and luckily for readers, it is the first book in a series.
