Ivy & Bean is the first book in a (currently) ten book series. A chapter book, it clocks in at around 120 pages and has many charming illustrations to support the story. Bean is a bit saucy and Ivy is quite different from her, but full of surprises. The two contrasting characters ensure that a young reader will find at least one character to connect with. This is a good book for young readers who liked Junie B. Jones and are ready to move up just a little. The main characters are seven years old and this book would be a good read for readers even younger than nine. Ivy & Bean was a cute, quick read and the personalities of the characters are a gold mine for future escapades–and trouble.
