Book Review

Publisher's Note:

There's something about the new guy at Crossroads High… Most sixteen-year-olds have friends. Aden Stone has four human souls living inside him: One can time travel. One can raise the dead. One can possess another human. One can tell the future. Everyone thinks he's crazy, which is why he's spent his entire life shuffled between mental institutions and juvie. All of that is about to change, however. For months Aden has been having visions of a beautiful girl—a girl who carries centuries-old secrets. A girl who will either save him or destroy him. Together they'll enter a dark world of intrigue and danger…but not everyone will come out alive.…

Intertwined

by Gena Showalter

Overall Book Review:

Published in 2010, Intertwined is a young adult novel from the height of the Twilight craze. However, this book doesn’t just have vampires and werewolves; it has witches, goblins, fairies–oh and did I mention zombies? Yes, it has it all.  One slight deviation from the traditional YA formula of that literary era is that there is not a love triangle.  There are definite couples and love interests with a little bit of jealousy sprinkled in, but no true love triangle.

The main character, Aden, is likeable and his situation is the most unique aspect of the book.  He seems to be sharing his body with four identities or voices that have made his life a train wreck.  These four voices each come with an ability.

This is pure, unadulterated teen fare with all the teen drama and emotions.  Fans of Twilight will be the most likely to enjoy, but others may find it a bit much.

About the Reviewer

An accountant and CPA by profession, I found myself a book reviewer for Squeaky Clean Reads by happenstance. When the opportunity came to transform that website into Compass Book Ratings, I was excited to seize it and meld my business background with my love of books. As the mother of three teenage sons, I have read a large number of children and young adult books and I believe that there is great value in a content review service. As much as we would love to read everything our children read, there just isn’t enough time. I also appreciate being able to select books for myself that are really worth my precious and limited reading time. I believe there is a book out there for everyone–they just have to find it!
