Hail, Holy Queen provides a detailed examination of the Catholic doctrines surrounding the Virgin Mary, told in a way that is accessible to readers who are not theologians and not necessarily Catholic, either. The book details familiar Biblical accounts including Mary from the New Testament, along with passages from both the Old Testament and Revelations that are viewed by many to also be references to her. In addition, the author includes some history of how the views of the Blessed Virgin have evolved throughout Church history. What sets this book apart and makes it extremely readable, whether for the serious student of theology or the casually curious, is that author’s writing style. He makes liberal use of clever word play, especially in the titles and subtitles of chapters, which is entertaining. Hahn also uses explanations that are detailed and comprehensive, while avoiding the use of theological terms that might confuse the average reader. This book is an excellent one for those of the Catholic faith who are seeking to learn more about the Marian doctrines, and it is equally helpful to those of other faiths who are simply curious.
