Fledgling takes the reader back to the delightful, magical, alternate history/world of Sarah Smith aka Cassandra in book two of the Sorcery and Society Series. The book opens with a thrilling and action-packed scene, but thereafter things move rather slowly and there is quite a bit of reference and backfilling with events from book one. In spite of this, the journey is quite enjoyable because Sarah has a flair for sarcasm. Her friendships, loyalty, and good heart has the reader cheering her on. If a Jane Austen-Harry Potter mash-up sounds too good to be true, then this book is for you.
Sadly, although there is set-up for the story to continue, Fledgling appears to be book two of a duology. Things are tied up enough that the reader will be able to sleep at night, but oh, how we will miss Sarah Smith’s dry wit!
