Fire Mountain is a standalone thriller novel by Dana Mentink. The book is exciting and full of danger and the unknown. If you are looking for something that has very little down time and constant change, you will find this interesting. The two main characters, Kit and Cullen, do not know one another, but are thrown together by unanticipated circumstances.

The story feels as though the author has a list of all the possible plot points she could put into a thriller novel and she chooses not just one or two things, but half of her list. Yet, somehow, this technique works. The main characters themselves are perhaps less interesting than the other characters they encounter, but it makes for a decent read and keeps one guessing about what or who might be around the next corner. At times the characters make some silly decisions, and it is unclear if the author meant them to be silly or if it was overlooked during editing.

Imagine a pending natural disaster mixed with danger from evil-minded humans and you have this story. Enjoy being immersed in danger at the expense of fictional characters while delving into a bit of romance. Don’t expect to feel comfortable and cozy, but do expect to be anxious to find out what is happening next. Something is always happening next.
