Jessica Day George has such a fun imagination and it really shined through in Dragon Flight. As book two of the Dragon Slippers Trilogy she included plenty of details to fill a new reader in just in case they hadn’t read the first book, but without making too many references to bother those who have. The main character, Creel, is a little firecracker who often has to be reminded to back down even to the king. This isn’t due to pride, rather she’s trying to protect those she loves; she is loyal to the end. George created such great characters from the dragons to the royalty peasants. Those who enjoy a little romance in the background of a story will appreciate the sweet, budding romances included in this tale. The plot is interesting to a young adult audience but also because of the dragon theme, my eight-year-old son loved having it read to him. Shannon Hale fans will also enjoy George’s writing as they have a similar style. Readers who enjoy fantasy, especially dragon stories will love the Dragon Slippers Trilogy.
