Dangerous Illusions

by Irene Hannon

Overall Book Review:

Irene Hannon begins her new Code of Honor series with Dangerous Illusions.  Those who have read other books by Hannon might not find this quite as intensely disturbing and creepy as some of her other action/adventure series.  That is not to say the book is any less of a story, but the feel is just not quite as dark.

The main character, Trish Bailey, really brings readers into her private anguish and immediately the reader feels a desire to protect her and prevent greater harm from coming upon her.  Her relationship with the lead detective on her case brings some romance and a reprieve from Trish’s trials.

The author tells you almost all of the events going on in the antagonist’s life and it seems the reader knows everything, but then Hannon throws in a few unexpected twists.  These twists don’t change the outcome or general flow of the story, but they certainly keep readers wondering if anything else is going to be discovered.

Those who enjoy unsettling reads in which the main characters are victims of evil plots will find this interesting.  Romantics will be satisfied, but hoping the next books in the series focus on certain characters introduced here.
