Publisher's Note:

FBI special agent Julianna Jameson is a top-notch negotiator who has never lost a hostage. Surely she can manage to take care of her much younger sister, Dottie, who showed up unannounced to live with Julianna while she finished her senior year of high school. A former sniper with the 75th Ranger Regiment, Clay Fox left the army after a tragic incident that he can't get past. Now he's working as a high school resource officer until he can figure out what to do with the rest of his life. Their paths cross when Julianna is called in to negotiate a courtroom hostage situation involving Clay's sister. Impressed and a bit intimidated by the calm, capable woman with the dark hair and blue eyes, Clay invites her to speak at his school. Dottie's school. But as the anniversary of a school shooting from Julianna's past approaches, it becomes clear that her perfect record is about to be tested and that Dottie is at risk. If Julianna and Clay can't figure out who's behind the attacks, more innocent people will die--and Dottie is next in line. This intense story of revenge and redemption from bestselling author and master of suspense Lynette Eason will have you up all night as you race toward the explosive finish.…

Crossfire

by Lynette Eason

Overall Book Review:

Ultimately, this is a story of overcoming and living life with the motto: When life hands you lemons, make lemon aid. The author, Lynette Eason, isn’t afraid of a challenge, and I love the feel of her characters because they’re real people.  We get to see their struggles as they face each day.

Juliana is the big sister to Dottie. They both come from a rough background, taking one day at a time trying to overcome the odds.  For Juliana, it was partially due to making some bad decisions as a teen, but she learned from them. As for Dotty, she had to grow up a little faster than usual.  It’s impressive when Dotty faces a bully, she handles her with composure. Both Juliana and Dottie have kind hearts, and it shows in their daily actions.

Clay Fox is a police officer who’s working to protect kids. He’s got baggage and is trying to figure out life in the aftermath of the Army. When Juliana and Clay bump into each other, sparks fly. Several other characters are involved and this wouldn’t be a great novel without bad guys playing their roles perfectly.

Lynette Eason is a Christian author who isn’t shy about having characters who have a relationship with God.  Like real people, some of the characters struggle with accepting God, but they are never belittled for their lack of faith.

This book had many moments of high stakes and is a thoroughly enjoyable to read. Like every great novel, there are a few curve balls that keep a level of enjoyable suspense. The pacing is spot on and the characters are enjoyable to get to know. Lynette Eason has written at least 58 books and co-authored many more. This is book two in a four book series and could be read as a stand alone or with the series.

About the Reviewer

Reading a good adventure story has always been a vacation in the theater of my mind. When I’m stressed or just need to get away for a few minutes, I love the opportunity to climb into somebody else’s world. I didn’t enjoy reading until I was in the Air Force and building bombs in Korea; it was a wonderful distraction from the real world. (I tried bull riding, but it wasn’t exciting enough.)
