I was homeschooled from kindergarten to grade 10, which gave me a love for reading. Growing up books were an integral part of my life, and I’ve always been able to make time to read. I’m most widely read in YA fiction, but fantasy is becoming my favorite genre. My free time not spent reading is mostly spent outdoors camping, riding a bicycle, or otherwise enjoying nature. I’m also a science nerd with a special interest in entomology.
Legends & Lattes was published in early 2022, and it quickly became known as a cozy, relaxing fantasy story. And that’s exactly what it is. This is the tale of an orc setting up a coffee shop in a…
If I had to choose one word to describe Ancillary Justice, it would be “subtle.” Nothing is obvious. The story unfolds gradually, and the author lets the reader draw their own conclusions without expl…
The Mountain of Kept Memory is an underrated fantasy standalone. I had never heard of it before I picked it up and was surprised to find out how good it was. One of my favorite things is that it reads…
A Magic Steeped in Poison is the first in a Chinese-inspired fantasy duology. The main selling point of this book is a magic system almost entirely based on tea, which I found intriguing. Talented ind…
“Who are you to say what my fate is – if I am to fail, or if I am to succeed? My fate is not yours to decide. My fate belongs to me.” This book is so good I accidentally read it twice. I loved read…
The Beholder is a fun, absorbing read, but it’s not of particularly high quality. It has flaws in terms of plot, characters, worldbuilding, and overall believability, but I whipped through it in a cou…
I have mixed feelings about This Woven Kingdom because while I enjoyed it, objectively it’s a pretty standard YA fantasy. Although the story was engaging, it had a few major flaws and didn’t do anythi…
Foundation and Empire is the second book in the Foundation series. It picks up roughly 40 years after the first book concluded and contains two more stories following the progression of the Foundation…
I was surprised to find that Green Rider is exactly the right length, despite being roughly 500 pages long. Although the beginning is a bit slow, the story quickly takes off and maintains excellent pa…
Skyhunter is a story about struggling with grief, trauma, and hopeless situations, but finding light even in dark circumstances – a story that feels relevant in our day and age. Marie Lu successfully …
Isaac Asimov was a writer of classic science fiction, and his work has greatly influenced science fiction as we know it today. The Foundation Series, of which this book is the first, is probably his b…
Tiger Queen is a retelling of the short story “The Lady, or the Tiger?” by Frank R. Stockton. You don’t need to be familiar with the original story before reading Tiger Queen – I wasn’t and looking ba…
