I was homeschooled from kindergarten to grade 10, which gave me a love for reading. Growing up books were an integral part of my life, and I’ve always been able to make time to read. I’m most widely read in YA fiction, but fantasy is becoming my favorite genre. My free time not spent reading is mostly spent outdoors camping, riding a bicycle, or otherwise enjoying nature. I’m also a science nerd with a special interest in entomology.
Sometimes, you need a book offering an escape from the real world without requiring a great deal of mental or emotional energy. The Teller of Small Fortunes does this perfectly. It provides plenty of …
There has been a recent surge in Asian-inspired YA fantasy, and I love the twist this gives to these worlds. Of Jade and Dragons continues in this trend and mixes in a steampunk element, making the st…
Mindwalker is a fun science fiction book. This is a fast-paced, tense story I would recommend to both female and male readers. While it’s technically a YA book, some of the themes and story feel more …

Hench is a well-written supervillain novel which delves into some deeper themes. The story is easy to get sucked into, the character dynamics are entertaining, and the premise is excellent. However, t…
The gods have released twelve magical swords into the world. Each sword has different powers, and they have been placed into the hands of mortals – some good, some…not so much. I was impressed with ho…
Emma Lord’s debut book, Tweet Cute, was wildly popular on social media when it came out, but her following works have received much less attention. While Begin Again doesn't quite measure up to Tweet …
It’s always fun to read a book where the main character loves libraries, but I’m glad I don’t live in a world where books partially constructed of human flesh can turn into monsters when damaged. Unfo…
Kiera Cass is best known for her “The Selection” series, which was very popular in the early 2010s. Since then, she has released a few other books which have not had the same level of success. I haven…
