A quote on the cover of this book says, “Hilariously wacky!” That about sums it up. Dave Roman is known for his wackiness, and he doesn’t disappoint with this second installment in the Astronaut Academy series. I laughed out loud several times while reading it.
With tons of allusions to classic sci-fi movies, video games and comic book heroes, Astronaut Academy: Re-entry is a fun romp through space with an exciting plot and sweet message. Puns and irony abound! Most kids won’t get all the references, but they’ll still love the story line and quirky characters, not to mention the fantastic artwork. Roman’s tongue-in-cheek style moves the story along brilliantly. Sports enthusiasts will enjoy the “fireball” backdrop, and romance lovers will appreciate the tension and resolution involved in typical (?) school relationships. I recommend this “hilariously wacky” graphic novel to anyone who gets a kick out of Manga.
