A Captain for Caroline Gray is a captivating and heartwarming read. The novel delves into Regency England and the harsh realities of British society. With no romantic prospects at home, the beautiful Caroline Gray must travel to meet a potential match in India. Her journey to the other side of the world makes for a great plot! Author Julie Wright crafts stunning descriptions, especially of India and the ocean voyage. Caroline is a refreshing heroine. She is beyond her time — smart and educated, with firm opinions and nothing like how women ‘are supposed to behave’. Her character will endear readers to her. Her love interest and occasional foil Captain Thomas is stern and borders on the edge of being an unlikeable, self-righteous bore. Wright shines with his character development. With some action for good measure, readers will delight in this ‘Proper Romance’!
