Suzanne Woods Fisher concludes her Cape Cod Creamery series with Love on a Whim. The premise of the book is pretty much wild and so out of character for the main character Brynn Harwood. It certainly invites readers to contemplate their decisions. There is a lot happening in the book, and the author tells the story from many different points of view.

One of the aspects of the story that makes it interesting and realistic is that one of the relationships developed in a previous book is brought into the spotlight. The characters are real and they don’t have a constant happily ever after. Like real people there are ups and downs and struggles. This dose of reality is appealing.

Brynn’s close friend continues to give her advice about things and the advice may not always be the best. It is nice to see a story where the best friend is not right about everything. The story is really not just about one single set of friends or one budding romance, but rather encompasses the stories of quite a few people in this small town.

While there is some romance, but it is not the primary focus of the plot. One minute the reader is cheering for one person and being frustrated with someone the next. Somehow the author manages to continue developing all of these characters and their stories without becoming superficial and rushing to a forgone conclusion. It is actually a bit disappointing to find this is the end of this series.
