Overall Book Review:

YA suspense seems to be a popular theme in my reading choices lately and I find I am really enjoying the trend. I’ll be honest, any time I read the synopsis of a book and see that boarding school and murder is involved, I immediately add it to my ‘to-read’ list. So, when I was perusing upcoming releases and saw that When All the Girls Are Sleeping met that description, I knew that I wanted to read it.

When we first meet Haley, a student at a large prep school for girls, she is still mourning the loss of her best friend, Taylor, who died suddenly almost exactly a year ago. Haley has always felt that the academy has a strange feel to it, but she and her friends can’t quite put their finger on what exactly feels off. Taylor’s death was considered an accident or possibly suicide; however, the more Haley becomes aware of, the more she wonders if there is something everyone is missing.

Haley begins to look further into Taylor’s death and uncovers more than she had bargained for. Strange sightings in the halls of the academy and stories of visitations of ghostly entities seem to be rumors at first, but the more Haley searches for answers, the weirder her experiences get. Then, new evidence surfaces surrounding the death of her deceased friend, and she and several other girls are convinced that Taylor was murdered.

When All the Girls Are Sleeping isn’t the most believable book I have read recently, but it is a creepy and entertaining book for readers that enjoy letting their imagination loose for a while. If you’re looking for something a little different than your typical YA suspense, than be sure to check this book out!

About the Reviewer

Books and reading have always been an important part of my life. When I was very young, my grandma was the library director at our local public library. Years later, after she had retired, I became a librarian at the same library and worked there for several years before taking a part-time job at a local coffee shop, which gives me more time to do what I love, to read and to review books! A few of my favorite authors are Aimee Bender, Diane Chamberlain, and Curtis Sittenfeld however, I will read almost any book I come across! In my spare time you can find me reading (of course), volunteering at a wildlife animal rehab, or hanging out with my three house rabbits.
