I jumped into this book without knowing anything at all about the story. This is what the author wanted, but it wasn’t an intentional move on my part. I just knew this book was getting a lot of praise, and wanted to see what all of the hype was about. Having read a few of E. Lockhart’s previous novels, I was fairly certain I would enjoy this new one. I just didn’t know how much. This book is for every teen girl who likes just a bit of romance mixed in with her fiction.
Although there is a lot of mystery and intrigue involved with the storyline of this book (and I can’t say too much for fear of giving anything away), there may be some harsh reviews of this book out there; I would encourage you to keep an open mind. The novel definitely picked me up and swept me away, in the best way possible. I was transported to an unexpected getaway to a private island near Cape Cod.
This book may be written in a way that makes the reader lose track of what is happening, it may have other faults, but the whole of the story makes up for these flaws. We Were Liars is an enchanting read that is perfect for a hot summer day, or the coldest day in winter, when you need a break from your frozen reality. I can’t say enough good things about this book. If you have read anything by Jenny Han or Justina Chen Headley, and enjoyed them, then this book is for you.
