Book Review

Publisher's Note:

A wild adventure begins when a charming orc con artist convinces an orphaned fae that she could be the kingdom’s lost princess, launching them both on a dangerous mission with found family, a flying pirate ship, and steamy romance. Clove is no stranger to hard work. As a young fae, she woke up in an orphanage with no memories and a torn wing. Since then, Clove has toiled in bustling taverns, saving every coin to reach the enchanting Wingspire City with her adorable, feathered companion, Goosebug. Now, finally with enough money, she’s ready to say goodbye to her past and find her future. Jayce, a charming and handsome orc, is currently on the run from a notorious crime lord he borrowed money from. That’s when he runs into the girl he’s been looking for—a fae who could pose as the missing princess. This con, and the huge reward, is finally in sight, but when Jayce stars to feel something for the feisty Clove, he knows it won’t be easy. Clove has never felt so alive, sneaking onto moving trains and soaring through the clouds on a magical pirate ship. Despite her better judgment, she’s beginning to trust Jayce—he’s so certain she’s the missing princess, and she desperately wants him to be right, especially if it means one more night with him . . . As they draw closer to the castle and each other, they must confront the truth, the past, and the passion brewing between them.…

Fall for a Fairytale

by Isabelle Taylor

Overall Book Review:

More fairytale than hard-core fantasy, the author concentrates this narrative on the attraction and relationship between the two main characters, Jayce and Clove. Both are likeable with no true rough edges to smooth out, and the two have a few cute scenes that will bring a smile to the reader’s face. Clove definitely is a combination of spunk and spice. The narrative moves along at a decent pace. There is political action afoot and a fun encounter with airships as Jayce and Clove make their way to the capital city. Some elements do remind one of Disney’s Tangled.

This title was pitched to Compass Book Ratings as a cozy fantasy romance and as a book that fans of the Emily Wilde series would enjoy. However, this title might not fit everyone’s definition of cozy fantasy romance, and it does not share much in common with the Emily Wilde series in terms of Heather Fawcett’s style, vision, originality, or writing. However, readers looking for an undemanding and quick read with a lot of spice between the main characters would find Fall for a Fairytale to their taste.

About the Reviewer

An accountant and CPA by profession, I found myself a book reviewer for Squeaky Clean Reads by happenstance. When the opportunity came to transform that website into Compass Book Ratings, I was excited to seize it and meld my business background with my love of books. As the mother of three teenage sons, I have read a large number of children and young adult books and I believe that there is great value in a content review service. As much as we would love to read everything our children read, there just isn’t enough time. I also appreciate being able to select books for myself that are really worth my precious and limited reading time. I believe there is a book out there for everyone–they just have to find it!
