This is a really sweet, really simple story about one little girl and her enormous love of crafting. It’s Monster Craft Day at school, and Birdie (a.k.a. Crafty Cat, her alter ego) is ready to storm the school with her brilliant craft ideas. All she has to do is survive the mean girl who keeps butting into her projects, trust her friend will be there for her with his victory dance, and make the most amazing crafts ever. With a little advice from Cloudy, her friendly neighborhood cloud, and the cheery comments of a happy little blue sidewalk flower, Birdie is ready to take charge of her happiness and make the most amazing, most monstrously Monster-ish projects ever.
The illustrations are very simple line drawings, spare and simplistic in their portrayal of Birdie and her friends. The layouts flow really nicely, and the dialogue is quite natural and gently humorous in bringing Birdie to life in an endearing way. A real pleasure to read.
