Overall Book Review:

As You Wish: Inconceivable Tales from the Making of The Princess Bride is a nostalgic walk down memory lane with Cary Elwes serving as the reader’s tour guide.  Ultimately, it is a love letter from Mr. Elwes to the movie, the director, the cast, and the entire filming experience for The Princess Bride.  The experience is primarily from Mr. Elwes’ point of view, beginning with casting and continuing up through the 25th anniversary of the film.  However, included are quotes and reflections from other actors and other people involved with the production.  There is a little repetition in all the love, but that is all right.  The most interesting and endearing anecdotes and insights are the ones involving Andre the Giant.

While this is not a book that will change a reader’s life, it is much like the movie–enchanting.  In a world filled with negative blog comments, cynical tweets, and a complete disregard for respectful dialogue, it is delightful and refreshing to have such a warm, positive take on people and on an experience.  Do you think this something that happens every day?  It is enough to make a person believe in true love all over again!

Review was of the audiobook version (First-rate recording by the way! Highly recommended!)

About the Reviewer

An accountant and CPA by profession, I found myself a book reviewer for Squeaky Clean Reads by happenstance. When the opportunity came to transform that website into Compass Book Ratings, I was excited to seize it and meld my business background with my love of books. As the mother of three teenage sons, I have read a large number of children and young adult books and I believe that there is great value in a content review service. As much as we would love to read everything our children read, there just isn’t enough time. I also appreciate being able to select books for myself that are really worth my precious and limited reading time. I believe there is a book out there for everyone–they just have to find it!
