Jenny Erlingsson’s Almost by Design really shines. The author has a way of making her characters genuine and interesting. They feel so real a person might expect to encounter the characters in everyday life. It is sometimes fun to read about characters who are completely fantastical, but reading about characters with flaws that are not completely consumed by their challenges is nice.
Don’t worry, there is still plenty of drama. In fact, there is quite a lot happening with the characters. After all, what can go wrong when pretending to be dating someone? Probably nothing, in fact, almost for sure nothing…
The strong willed independence of Kenya Stewart creates strong contrasts to the vulnerable moments. This just endears Kenya all the more. Things might not always go exactly as planned, but often they go even better. Enjoy rooting for Solomon and Kenya and their personal ventures as well as hoping there will be a bit of romance. There will be. Don’t worry about that.
