Overall Review:

While Cinder and Ella has a few elements that are similar to the original Cinderella story, it has been drastically altered so you have to really look for the similarities. That's not to say, however, that it isn't a great book. This fun story not only entertains with the typical dysfunctional fairytale family, but also teaches some great lessons along the way. While some character situations are heartbreaking, others are sweet and heartwarming. There's also the amusing, not-so-suave knight who clumsily tries to woo the fair maiden and provides some good laughs in the process. Lemon did a great job of creating an unexpected villain who was easy to dislike and seemingly impossible to overcome. The heroines were developed in an interesting way with one being a little unexpected--as she appeared to be just sitting on the sidelines at first--but later she became a major player. The twists on the original classic fairytale were thoroughly enjoyable and overall this book deserves 4 1/2 stars!
