Overall Review:

Head in the Clouds by Karen Witemeyer is not actually about a completely absentminded girl.  It sounds like it should be and the author does have one scene that appeals to this characterization.  Readers will have to pick this story up to find out more about the title.

Witemeyer creates a strong and likeable female character named Adelaide Proctor.  She has her quirks, like only wearing yellow, but these are endearing and as a whole she is quite pleasant.  Miss Proctor really makes the story more enjoyable.  Her life experiences have served to strengthen and form her personality.

The story takes place on a sheep ranch in Texas and one of the best parts about the villain of the story is his observations about the dry brownness of the state.  Gideon, the lead male, runs the sheep ranch and is British, but the story seemed to depict him leaving his British upbringing behind.  That was a bit disappointing.

Don't go into this story expecting calm, peaceful times centered around raising a troubled young girl.  Look forward to adventures, danger and merrymaking.  All of these are united by serious themes and elements of love.  Enjoy the journey as you follow the story of Adelaide and Gideon.
