Overall Review:

Following up on Fairy Tale Comics, Chris Duffy and various graphic artists take on fables.  In many ways, the fables lend themselves perfectly to the graphic novel format because they are short, simple, and adaptable in setting and/or characters.  Not all the fables spell out their moral. Some do, but some don't.  It actually would have been helpful if they all summed up their moral--especially for young readers who may be encountering the fables for the first time.  A nice touch is at the bottom of the first page of each new fable, it gives the source of the fable.

This is a visually delicious book!  The full-color graphics and the eclectic mix of styles is eye-catching and enticing.  The different artist styles are an asset in separating the fables and maintaining interest.  Adults will pick up on the subtle humor and children (even younger than nine) will enjoy the slapstick humor.  Fable Comics is a fun and entertaining way to introduce readers to an important story form.
