Overall Review:

Few historical fiction novels are as stirring as Kristin Hannah's The Nightingale. Set during World War II, Nightingale follows sisters Viann and Isabelle through the horrors of Nazis occupation in their beloved France. The book features several major historical events, including the citizens' exodus from Paris and the Vel' d'Hiv Round-up of Jews. The tale is fast-paced and written with such keen detail and strong emotion that it was difficult to remember Nightingale is actually a work of fiction.

Hannah, a New York Times bestselling author, is an eloquent writer with the ability to create touching scenes and memorable characters. The book's two leads, Viann and Isabelle, are well-rounded and represent real wartime heroes. Though Nightingale is heartbreaking tale, its beauty and brilliance make it impossible to put down.
