Overall Review:

In The Boundless, Kenneth Oppel does what he does best--create an adventure story with a strong male lead.  (If you have a guy reader in your household, then you should put Mr. Oppel at the top of the go-to author list.)  A likeable cast of characters, a circus, a magnificent train hurtling at high speed, a dash of fantasy, villains, and plentiful action--there is so much here to like and enjoy.

Essentially though, The Boundless feels like the plot and elements of Airborn re-cast.  Directed at perhaps a slightly younger reader audience than Airborn, it was even set in a different time and location of the same world created in Airborn.  Although a fun adventure story and recommended as a satisfying read, the novel felt too much like Airborn to really make it a truly memorable read.  (Unfortunately, when you write something as exceptional as Airborn, the expectation bar is set pretty high.)  Fans of adventure stories will be pleased with The Boundless.
