Overall Review:

Toby Wheeler has typical eighth-grade problems: his best friend has new interests and friends; he doesn’t know how to talk to girls—let alone invite one to a dance—and he may spend the whole season just keeping the bench warm for his school’s basketball team. Filled with action and humor, this book portrays the pain and the joys of middle school life and of someone who just wants to get in the game. The story gradually builds in excitement to the climatic game with the school’s arch rivals. Reading Level: 3.5, range 1.5-5.6.
Also good for reluctant readers
Of interest to boys.
